Some Don'ts while trying to move on from a break-up

Don'ts- Because do’s could vary with the cases but donts remain the same for all. Earlier we saw why we need to move-on and how to cope-up from a failed relationship. Carrying the discussion further lets discuss some Don'ts while you are coming in terms with the break-up.

Listening to songs that fit the mood
For me, this is by far, the most useless practice. These days they make all kinds of songs which fit a variety of situations. And that’s what makes it ugly- people “connect” with them and don’t get out of that depressed and irritated mood. The moment you hit the play button for the song, you play the series of all those memories and make yourself remember everything which you want to forget. The only way out for such an addiction- DELETE the infectious songs!!

Memories are wonderful to make, but sometimes painful to remember
If you have objects that are relevant to the experience you want to get over with, it is best to keep the objects out of sight for a few days. More than having an emotional value, they create a mental block. Memories are in the mind, but when you have physical objects that you can feel, touch and cherish(ed), it is definitely a good idea to keep them in the cold storage of the mind. That seems impossible in the beginning but then you know why it is important and essential.

Sulking and keeping to oneself
This is probably the worst thing to do. One may need his own time to think, rethink, come to conclusions and analyse repercussions. However one mistake doesn’t mean you boycott the whole world! There are people who love you, want to help you out and see that glowing, smiling face again. Wouldn’t it be selfish to deprive those few loved ones of it??
Don’t go on enjoying with them if u don’t want to, but be with your family and close friends. Try to be normal around them. They also know that you are trying your best to be happy but at least make an effort.
A solitary life could worsen the situation. Remember, Man is a social animal and needs some sort of interactions continuously.

Being rigid and stubborn
Life is all about change. The more you adapt with the present situation, the easier it is for you to be in harmony with yourself and your surroundings. This doesn’t mean that you lose yourself in the process. That could probably lead to a bigger problem, by making you lose confidence. None of us is perfect. Nor can anyone ever be. On the contrary, having thoughts like “I did everything right”, “It wasn’t my fault”, “I am going to be me, let the earth do its dance!” and believing them just shows that you are ignorant of your own shortcomings and your inability to be in terms with the reality.

Friends who reinforce your pessimist thoughts
An absolute no-no. Generally, these are the people who would just get too emotional or hysterical on hearing your stories. They might be good people, but try not to follow their advice if you don’t find it logical enough. They could be your family members or anyone who cares a lot for you. They understand your situation and your way of countering it. And thus take your side. Abandoning them is not an option but try to be less influenced. They intend no harm but end up doing the worst- make you stick to the situation by making you think you did nothing wrong. And hence the main purpose of you committing a mistake (that is, the process of learning) is lost.

Sometimes, it is just that you took a risk and it went bad. So what?! What if you didn’t take this risk? Wouldn’t you have been thinking what your life would be without the risk? Life is a game of ifs and buts. Each time you play, it gives you a better understanding of the game. Who knows what the results would be if you took that step at a different time. Probably you would have been successful and remorse free. Maybe next time with this experience you would be more than successful…. Thus move on, change your life for the best and be the happiest you have ever been….

Why do we need to move on from past relationship ?

Ever heard someone telling you to “get over it!!” or calling you a “depressed soul”? Annoying, isn’t it? Yes its a very annoying thought that the person doesn’t realize what you’ve been through and gives you the most common advice available. This too is easier said than done. Well, they all say it for a reason. Life goes on, no matter what. It’s our call to either improve with the changing times and changing people(which also includes oneself) or to stick to the past, sulk over it and regret. Well regretting is important too, otherwise how will you learn from your mistakes if you don’t sit and think what you could have done and where you could have been. Next time you would probably give your best shot to reach this 'could' level. Everyone makes mistakes and takes wrong decisions. The best thing you could do after that, is to carry the experience with you and not repeat the same mistakes again.

How to move on and cope up?

Some say distract yourself by pursuing your hobbies etc. But what to do when the problem lies in the things you do and it reminds you of the things you are trying to get over with? Distraction could be helpful for short durations. However when you somehow remember 'it' again, it could just bring all the memories back in a moment.

Generally, moving on isn’t a problem for optimists. But can be really hard and torturous for the rest. The first thing to do is to forgive yourself or the person who caused harm. At least try to understand the intentions of the doer. Probably he/she just did it for the best. Generally, forgiving oneself is the toughest. If the incident keeps playing in your mind over and over again, with your parts or mistakes as the highlights, it becomes all the more nightmarish. Sometimes literally!! Or can even lead to depression in extreme cases.

Accept the reality. Accept your mistakes. Then set yourself free of the guilt, the remorse and the unpleasant feelings. Try to STOP that record of memories right as it starts. Sometimes, all we need, is to talk to someone who can make us realize and reason out whatever happened (or talking to the person involved could help too). Initially, you will feel bad but eventually, we realize how things were meant to be this way and worked out for the best. Make sure the person is someone you trust and is mentally sound and would not become hyper on hearing your story(otherwise that would ultimately have a bad effect on the broader picture). Professional help would be the best. Just make sure you have someone to hear you out and half the work is done! You’ll feel comfortable and soon better.

Hydroelectric Energy : Disadvantages of Hydroelectric Energy

After going through the advantages of hydroelectricity, a quick look on the limitations and concerns associated with it will help in giving a broader perspective of its actual impact. Altering earth’s natural processes, always incurs some costs. We first pay (in monetary terms) for the infrastructure etc. and then pay the intangible price of disrupting certain natural systems. Let’s see how.

Disadvantages of Hydroelectric Energy

1) It can be generated only in areas with heavy rainfall and sufficient supply of water.
2) Hydel power generation stations are to be located in hilly mountainous terrains where waterfalls as well as ideal sites for dams are located. In a region/country without hills hydel power generation is not possible.
3) Loss during transmission is very high, sometimes up to 30%.
4) Dams are expensive to build.
5) Building a dam affects the environment and wildlife of adjoining areas. Nearby low-lying areas are always under the threat of floods.
6) Building of dam causes lot of pollution.
7) If rains are scarce, there might not be enough water to turn turbines.

Hydroelectric Energy : Advantages of Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectric energy is the electrical energy derived from hydro (water) power. It is a non-conventional or alternate source of energy.

How hydroelectric energy is generated ?

Before discussing advantages and disadvantages of Hydroelectric power, let’s first understand how a hydroelectric power plant works to understand its merits and demerits better. Flowing water possesses kinetic energy. Traditionally, this energy was used to drive water mills to grind pulses etc. Modern day methods have modified this use for a bigger purpose- generation of electricity. When rain falls on high grounds in hilly areas, it flows down in the form if rivers and reaches the sea level. This water is stopped in between and stored in large reservoirs or damns. The dams are at a height and thus water now contains potential energy. This water is then made to flow to large turbines. The water flows with high speed and pressure and rotates turbines, which in turn generates electricity. The water stream follows its natural course, once out of the generator. This is how a hydroelectric power plant can convert the potential energy of stored water in a reservoir of a tall dam into electric energy.
The main reason for using this form of energy for electricity generation is the fact that it is an alternate source of energy and can bring a relief to the use of conventional energy sources. Other advantages of hydro energy are discussed below.

Advantages of Hydroelectric Energy

1) It is a non-polluting source of energy.
2) It has lower operational cost compared to fossil fuel-based generation plants.
3) Can be easily transmitted through wires to long distances.
4) Dams made for generation of Hydroelectricity also help in irrigation projects.

Next we will discuss disadvantages of Hydroelectric energy.

Solar Energy: Disadvantages of Solar Energy

In our discussion about advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, we have already discussed advantages of solar energy. Now lets take a look at disadvantages of solar energy.

However, this seemingly free source of energy is not free of cost in literal terms, let’s see how.

Too much exposure to sun rays can be harmful for the skin and may lead to skin problems. But the atmosphere acts as a sieve and removes a major part of the unwanted harmful rays of the sun. However, due to the global warming (caused due to release harmful gases into the atmosphere), the ozone layer has a hole in it now. Nature has provided us with all solutions to keep us safe and cozy, but it too demands care, or at least doesn’t want its own destruction. Utilizing its resources in the right manner is the only thing we can do. Over utilization has led us to a stage where we need to change the way we live and that comes at a huge monetary cost.

So, the choice is up to us. Whether we want to this big ball of fire to spoil our future for the present or refrain from harming the soil we have grown on, for a sustainable life.

Disadvantages of Solar Energy

1)  Solar energy is mostly available in tropical and sub-tropical areas. The region with maximum Solar energy potential is lying between 50 degrees north and south of equator. As we move towards poles, proportion of solar energy received by earth goes on decreasing.
2) It is seasonal in nature and cannot be utilized during monsoon or when weather is cloudy.
3) The solar power technology is still at infant stage and is quite expensive.
4) Cost of installation of solar energy plant is very high.
5) During night it is not possible to produce Solar Energy.
6) Storage of this form of energy is difficult.
7) At present heavy machines are not possible to operate on this source.
8) Solar panels consume land, as power generation per unit square is low.
9) Silicon, used in production of SPV (Solar Photo Voltaic), is a pollutant.
10) Return of Investment(ROI) on solar energy takes around 3-5 years.

Solar Energy: Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar energy is the energy that we get from the sun, as a result of nuclear fission reactions going on inside it. This energy is in the form of heat and light. Solar Energy is essential for a majority of living organisms on earth to survive. The plants, animals, certain micro-organisms, all survive due to the solar energy or by consuming substances which require solar energy to evolve. Not only does it affect living organisms, but also non-living things. For instance, many phenomena in nature like the wind, storms, rains, sea waves etc. are all dependent on this form of energy.

Having realized the true potential of solar energy and its importance, humans are now devising methods to utilize solar energy in our daily lives since it is a major source of renewable energy and in the fact that makes it all the more valuable. Some well-known solar energy utilizing devices are solar cooker, water heater, solar cells which can be used in multiple devices.

To make it mandatory to utilize this source of energy to the maximum, many countries have set norms for building green buildings. These are energy efficient and are dependent primarily on solar energy. They also help in cost cutting.

Now in this first part about advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, lets discuss Advantages of Solar Power.

Advantages of Solar Energy

1) It is one of the most readily available sources of energy.
2) It is an inexhaustible source of energy.
3) It is an uninterrupted and continuous source.
4) Solar Energy doesn’t give rise to any chemical or sound pollution.
5) It can be used directly for baking, drying. Devices like solar heater facilitate its use.
6) Solar devices can be installed in remote, inaccessible areas like forests, deserts, mountains, off-shore platforms, remote oceanic islands.
7) It is possible to produce Solar Energy in large quantities.
8) Poor tropical countries have locations which are advantageous for solar energy production.
9) More the number of solar units we have, the more units of energy will be produced. It is directly proportional.
10) It can be used directly in conjunction with other conventional or non-conventional energy supply systems.
11) Cost of maintenance is low.

Next we will discuss Disadvantages of Solar Energy.

Tree Topology: Advantages and Disadvantages

What is Tree Topology?

Tree Topology integrates the characteristics of Star and Bus Topology. Earlier we saw how in Physical Star network Topology, computers (nodes) are connected by each other through central hub. And we also saw in Bus Topology, work station devices are connected by the common cable called Bus. After understanding these two network configurations, we can understand tree topology better. In Tree Topology, the number of Star networks are connected using Bus. This main cable seems like a main stem of a tree, and other star networks as the branches. It is also called Expanded Star Topology. Ethernet protocol is commonly used in this type of topology. The diagram below will make it clear.

Tree Topology

Let’s discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Tree Topology now.

Advantages of Tree Topology

1. It is an extension of Star and bus Topologies, so in networks where these topologies can't be implemented individually for reasons related to scalability, tree topology is the best alternative.
2. Expansion of Network is possible and easy.
3. Here, we divide the whole network into segments (star networks), which can be easily managed and maintained.
4. Error detection and correction is easy.
5. Each segment is provided with dedicated point-to-point wiring to the central hub.
6. If one segment is damaged, other segments are not affected.

Disadvantages of Tree Topology

1. Because of its basic structure, tree topology, relies heavily on the main bus cable, if it breaks whole network is crippled.
2. As more and more nodes and segments are added, the maintenance becomes difficult.
3. Scalability of the network depends on the type of cable used.
